XBox 360 coming to shelf on Nov 22nd.

I Can't Image how many people will be lined up at BestBuy/Fry's for the XBox 360 when it is born to earth on Nov. 22nd...Just a few days before the Thanksgiving - peferct as a memorable gift!
I didn't Microsoft actually created a dedicated a website just for XBox 360's H/W. It's also important to point out of that the game console has more horsepower than any desktop I ever played/used:
3.2Ghz CPU with 1Mb of L2 cache, 512MB of 700MHz GDDR3 RAM, 500M Triangles/Sec. Wi-Fi/Ethernet supports, over 256 audio channels...You name it! More importantly, at least one of the which_one_is_the_next_generation_DVD is finally moving out. Microsoft teamworked with Toshiba to support HD-DVD for their next gen. game console.
I heard MSFT would charge $350 for this package, with optional 40GB HDD. I bet if any one can heck this thing and convert it to a desktop, the PC shipments in the states and Japan will drop dramatically. There is no way one can buy a equivallent equipment desktop at this price, and I don't really believe MSFT makes any penny out of the box...Oh well, do they really make lots of profit on the games? Not on today's Xbox.
Nevertheless, it still show Bill's efforts as Microsoft is definitely moving full-throttle in this market. I can't wait to see the next gen. of PS3, and Ican't wait to see how MSFT will wrestle Sony!

Fodora Bootloader (GRUG) mystery

I tried to install Fedora on an external USB drive last night, and it still didn’t work out. Then I made a big mistake by deciding to install Fedora using the “free space” on my Windows hardware. The hard drive partition was then incorrectly done, and I had to recover the whole system today, for 10 straight hours. Finally, it’s all done. I created a 20GB partition for Fedora, and the system was installed perfectly. Well, almost perfectly. Fedora’s boot loader (GRUB) chooses hd(0,0) as the default “Other” OS. The problem is, Compaq’s recovery disk puts its recovery section (D:\ Drive) in this partition, and whenever GRUB tries to boot from “Other”, Compaq’s recovery session is loaded instead of Windows XP. I still couldn’t figure out why ? This has been a nightmare. I’ve installed Red Hat 3 years ago on my old Pentium III, and it was damn good and very well self-configured. Not sure what went wrong with Fedora though.

I tried to “force” GRUB to use the command “rootnoverify (hd0,1) /n chainloader +1” instead of “rootnoverify (hd0,0) /n Chainloader +1”, which is default at the moment. The commands I used are “GRUG> rootnoverify (hd0,1) save” and “GRUG> rootnoverify (hd),1) savedefault”, but they didn’t work. =(

Anyways, until I find the solution to this challenge, I will just have to keep modifying the stupid command line in order to boot Windows XP…

San Diego Downtown

Taking a walk in San Diego downtown after a fantastic dinner would be one of the finest things you’d like to do.  And I did it.

I went to San Diego zoo on July 18.  Although I’m not a 10 years old boy anymore, it still interests me seeing many kinds of animals on the same day.  Of course, that includes human beings. =)  There are lions, polar bears, monkeys, camels, bongos, giraffes, rhinos, zebras, tigers and snakes -- you name it.  Not to mention the Sea Lion Show several times during the day.  Thereafter, I drove to San Diego downtown.  There is a Brazilian restaurant called “Rei do Gado” at 4th Ave. and Broadway St. (I heard it from a friend.)  In simple words, it’s a steak house.  The food was absolutely fantastic with excellent services.  The best thing I liked was the Brazilian cocktail special.  After eating too much that I had to take a walk in Downtown, that’s where all the fun begun.

To me, San Diego downtown displays a combination of Mexican cultures and American revolution.  I’m sure there are 80 some restaurants on 4th and 5th Ave. alone, southward from Broadway.  Most of them are either Mexican or Brazilian style with their own uniqueness.  Enjoying the music while walking down the streets with views Mexican style buildings.  Another place worth to mention is the Horton Plaza on 4th Ave.  It’s a nicely constructed mall with an interesting structure.  Although seems not a big place from the outside, you can easily get lost on the shopping trip.  Right at downtown, there is San Diego Convention Center constructed as a long glass-made train lies along the waterside.  Take the elevator to the top, you can see the bay area while enjoying a beautiful sunset.  Two aircraft carriers parked at the San Diego bay, one of them is opened to the public as a museum.  I will definitely go there once I have another chance to go to downtown.

airport

Well, there’s nothing worse than typing up a blog on your laptop inside an airport…hmm, that’s what I’m doing right now. It’s been very busy since I started my full time job. Living in the United States becomes a quite difficult thing to do now, because of the “home land security” implementation. It took me almost three weeks to get my SSN, and some banks refused to open an account for me until I get that stupid number, not to mention my ZERO credit history in the states that credit card companies turned me down just like I’m a homeless man on the street.

And now, I’m flying to San Diego to start my 4 weeks of applications training. I feel OK to leave my apartment because I have nothing left behind. Within that lovely 560 square feet apartment, the only “furniture” that belongs to me is my King-size mattress and boxes. BTW, I didn’t buy them from a store. I “picked them up” from a hotel garbage station. My wife is not here with me because she needs to apply for an American Visa. It happens once in a while that I feel not like to home after work because I have nothing to do but having my dinner on the floor…No, I don’t have table.

It’s too late when I realized that I left my mp3 player and the headphone in the bag that I checked in. So I can’t listen my own music while I’m waiting for the plane to come. It’s funny that the Jazz they play inside the SJC airport makes me feel that I’m falling asleep. Well, I think I should just stop here before I drop my laptop onto the floor.
