又回到温哥华机场
第一次到温哥华机场是在1997年的6月. 那个时候是从中国搬家到加拿大 ? 移民出国. 是我长那么大第一次做飞机, 第一次做国际航班, 第一次出国. 到达温哥华机场转机的时候, 身上带的是一路奔波的疲惫, 但心里却带着兴奋和好奇. 在那个冷清的机场里等待转飞多伦多的航班, 看着这个漂亮的机场和到处熟悉又陌生的英文, 是一种蛮复杂的心情.
再次回到这个机场竟然是9年以后的事情. 有些讽刺的是, 我回到YVR的原因不是因为我住在加拿大东部到温哥华旅游, 而是住在美国加州到温哥华出差. 所以一下飞机过加拿大海关的时候, 要站在 "Visitor"的队伍里而不算是"Resident" . 虽然是当天往返, 在温哥华只停留几个小时, 也多少满足了9年前的我在机场等飞机时心里想的 “要是能出去看看就好了”的愿望.
时光飞快, 9年后的我当然变化了好多, 成熟了好多. 飞国际航班已经好多次, 往返于美国, 加拿大和亚洲多次, 更不再会因为口语的问题而担心怎么和飞机乘务员交流. 反而回加拿大有种亲戚的感觉, 甚至比去中国大陆更有亲切感. 简简单单的快餐店都能钩起回忆. 同事说要去吃Harvey’s的Burger, 我却想买Tim Horton's的Donut和Tim Bits ? 满足于简单的 "加拿大式生活", 这也许都是因为我们是在加拿大上学的缘故吧. 最后他买了Burger King的Poutine (在美国的Burger King没有), 而我在Tim Horton's买了一份Chili Combo, 六个 Donut和四十个Tim Bits ? 过瘾!
回来快上飞机的时候才发现公司给回程机票订的是头等舱. 我说买机票的时候怎么觉得这个价钱好贵呢 (>$800USD往返). 舒适当然是不用讲, 周围坐的都是大公司总监或者总裁什么的, 我就奇怪自己这么一个小卡啦是怎么混近来的呢? =)
这段时间好忙碌. 明天晚上飞台北, 下周四转飞香港到上海. 所以其实做头等舱也不算占公司便宜, 毕竟连续奔波是很辛苦的. 明天是全天的培训, 早上8点准时开始 (现在已经凌晨2点多了). 所以要早起…惨!

Blackberry Connect Works!
After much harassment to people working at our IT department and several phone calls to the Cingular Technical Support and their rep company, my Treo 650 finally worked with Blackberry Connect and is hooked up with the Blackberry Server.
Although people can argue that getting email connections on my phone is probably not a good thing because it means I will have to work more and eventually becomes addicted to the system, I just couldn’t refuse the temptation of trying out the latest gadget tools to enable something cool.
It worked, so my effort was paid off. I wouldn’t say that Palm’s software is good because I definitely had many troubles of installing their application on my laptop. But now, I have a smart phone that can make phone calls, can receive work and personal emails, can play MP3 songs and videos, and can do IM communications….so why do I need a Blackberry? :-)

Running Windows Vista Pre-RC1
So I think Microsoft only released 10,000 downloads for Pre-RC1, and I've been one of the many "downloaders" who dared to put their PCs for a trial...Well, it's been very good so far.
I luckly had 20GB extra partition in my desktop, so I installed Vista on top of my XP Home Edition. It worked out fine, and it seems like Vista will treat XP as "Older Generation Windows" in it's Bootloader menu...Ah, the yonger generation has no respect. =)
Well, it's stable. That's the 1st thing I noticed. My computer has not crashed, which surprised me considering that this OS is made by Microsoft. =)
The 2nd thing I noticed is that Vista is quite "backwork-compatibility friendly". That means my PC Peripherals worked just fine under Vista as they would under XP. I installed the XP drivers for my web cam, sound card and WLAN USB adapter. Vista was not as "picky" as I expected, and it took all the drives prepared for XP without any complain, so I'm up and running in no time!
The 3rd thing I liked about this release is that Microsoft apparently gave a face-lift to it after they released Vista Beta 2. The user interface and the overall setup has been improved greatly. I installed a previous version of Windows Vista in November'05, and the screen shots can be found here. If one makes a comparison of the desktop captures (below), it is clearly seen that the "Start" button has been changed to a Windows' Logo. Of course, there are many other changes made and I won't mention them here. The point is that this interface is getting better, and I like it very much.
Windows Side Show is convinient as Google's Desktop Search (ahen, ahen, ahen...I didn't say who's copying whom =), and it's actually quite useful in my opinion.
Anyways, I definitely look forward to getting my hands on one of the early releases when Vista officially come out in November'06. But I think I will need a new desktop system since my current H/W is definitely far from "Vista Ready"...
