Is 2008 a "good" year for China?

First, I have to say I feel very sorry and sad about the chaotic earthquake result in Sichuan.  I read news, and I saw pictures.  It was sad.

And then I started thinking...Chinese tends to be a little superstitious.  Even numbers likes 0, 2, 6, 8, 10...are good numbers - so 2008 is suppose to be really "good" with the Olympic takes place in August (8!!), or is it?

A little over 5 months into the year, China seems to have many problems that curse the optimism - The snow storm happened in some southern provinces of China caught many people surprised and trapped, the Tibet independence movement challenged the Communist Party's ability of handling human-right-sensitive crisis and international attention, the hand-foot-mouse disease outbreak that killed 26 and left many infected, and the recent SiChuan earthquake that killed more than 15K people and still counting...

Am I being a typical Chinese and becoming superstitious?  Will 2008 turns around and becomes an awesome year for the Chinese?  Will China hosts the Olympic successfully with many gold metals?

I don't know.
