Congress gives OK to digital TV switch

Well, Congress gives OK to digital TV switch by 2009.

What does this mean? - It means my 20" Panasonic CRT TV at home will not serve its purpose even if I want to pay Comcast for a monthly cable subscription because my TV does not take digital inputs. Thus, it will not "understand" the digital signal sent through Comcast's cable. It's hard to believe considering it is the year of 2006 at the moment. There are still many many many TVs in Consumer Electronics Stores (like BestBuy, Circuit City, Fry's, etc.) that are on sale with NO support of digital signals.

I hope that one solution the consumers have is to buy a digital/analog converter (i.e. a Set-Top-Box) by 2009 so that the signals can be "down-graded". Otherwise, it simply means that those flat screen CRT TVs with no digital support will be only useful for people to watch VCR/DVD or play video games. For those who expect their TVs to last more than a few years, watch out the specs when you're shopping!
