Frankly I was a little surprised because I didn't (know/) believe submarine can be as stealthy as almost "invisible" to a nearby observer (in this case, another submarine). No matter how quiet the engine and the propeller are, I assume the other submarine would "hear" something via its (military and "super sensitive") sonar. In this case, I guess it must be that both submarines' engines were not running.
But it's still amazing that you just can't "see" such a big object (>100m long!) under the ocean when it comes to very close!
According to BBC news:
Both the UK and France insisted nuclear security had not been compromised.
It's also worth to point out the slim possibility of this collision considering how big the Atlantic ocean is!
